Continental Tyres has launched its new MaxContact MC7 rubber in Australia, with local media given the opportunity to put it to the test on Sydney roads, as well as in controlled settings at Luddenham Raceway.

A high performance tyre designed to provide maximum control, shorter braking distances, and reduced noise levels, the MaxContact MC7 has been in development for three years. It features Continental’s cornering macroblock technology.

Maximising the tyre’s contact area with the road to create a wider footprint, and ensuring a more controlled and stable driving experience, the technology is paired with ReFlex Compound for enhanced resistance to deformation (which improves steering response).

The MaxContact MC7 is designed to ensure optimum safety, even in wet weather, and also features Continental’s two-in-one Noise Breaker 3.0 tech, which breaks up sound waves, preventing noise from building up and traveling into the cabin, resulting in a quieter drive.

To prove its capabilities, we were given the keys to two BMW 330i test vehicles, which were driven in wet and dry conditions. One car was fitted with the MaxContact MC7 tyre, while the other was shod with a leading competitor’s rubber.

There was a clear difference between the two, with the MC7 gripping the road beautifully and leaving you feeling confident to push the BMW to its limits, in and out of corners, including braking hard, and all without losing control.

We were blessed (perhaps not so much) with torrential rain during our testing, which even further demonstrated the capability of the MC7 tyre, on country roads and the track. The MaxContact is designed to provide maximum control and reduced noise, and it does.

Replacing the highly regarded Continental MaxContact MC6, the new tyre is offered in sizes from 17-inch to 20-inch and will be available Australia wide from 1 June. It’s offered in 205-275mm widths.
