Honda launches 2024 Accord e:HEV RS
The 2024 Honda Accord e:HEV RS sets new standards in the mid-size sedan space by offering itself up as a legitimate hybrid competitor for the Toyota Camry. An electric motor is paired with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine to deliver 135kW of power and 335Nm of torque.
Honda let us loose with it in Melbourne as part of its Australian media launch, and we’ve got to say, while it’s impressive, it feels a little underpowered. It’s not hideous or anything, and its target market will likely be happy with it, but we’d have liked to have seen a little more oomph.
It comes in four colours; Platinum White, Lunar Silver, Meteoroid Grey and Crystal Black. In a nice touch, they’re all the same price. Being an RS, the new Accord gets contrasting accents on the external trims, including a gloss black grille, front splitter, side skirts and shark-fin antenna.
The door mirrors and a neat boot spoiler are finished in the same look, as are the 18-inch alloy wheels. Aligning with that sporty exterior are black leather sport seats with red stitching and a black roof lining.
A massive upgrade over the previous version, the new interior is contemporary, yet modern and sophisticated. In the rear, there’s integrated blinds as standard for both outboard windows, and plenty of knee and foot room. If you’re over 180cm tall though, the sloping roofline makes headroom a little limited.
A panoramic sunroof lights up the dark cabin, and there’s ambient lighting and plenty of boot space. A tyre repair kit is provided in lieu of a space saver or full sized spare. There’s a nod to the exterior look with the air vent design, which spans the dash.
In a Honda-first, Google Assistant and Google Maps both feature in the 12-3-inch infotainment setup and 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Having Google onboard means you can save everything from climate control to music volume to your profile.
An 11.5-inch head-up display features, alongside a 12-speaker Bose sound system. The Accord comes equipped with wireless phone charging and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto too.
A neat swivel wheel built into the dash just below the infotainment screen allows easy access to climate control, and a raft of other settings. Priced at $64,900 drive away, the Accord e:HEV RS comes with a 5-year warranty.
You also score similar length capped price servicing and roadside assist. You also score 5-years of Honda Connect, which allows for remote data wiping, and finding your car with your phone.
You can also set alarms for speeding notifications if the kids decide to go for a joyride, and digital key features. Considered Honda’s flagship vehicle, the 2024 Honda Accord e:HEV RS focuses on innovation, technology and sustainability.
