Honda Marks 60 Years Since Its First F1 Victory
As the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship season kicks off in Melbourne, Australia, Honda celebrates 60 years since securing its first-ever Formula One victory.
Honda made its F1 debut at the German Grand Prix in August 1964, and just over a year later, in October 1965, the brand took its first win at the Mexican Grand Prix. This victory marked the beginning of Honda’s journey as an innovator in the motorsport world, creating advanced products that set the standard for Formula One excellence.
Honda Australia’s “Unstoppable Dreams” campaign highlights the importance of perseverance, showcasing how success often comes after overcoming failure. The campaign features the legendary Ayrton Senna and current FIA Formula 1® World Champion Max Verstappen, both embodying Honda’s relentless drive for progress.
Honda's commitment to innovation has solidified its position not just as a participant in motorsport, but as a serious contender at the highest level.
2025 also marks nearly 40 years since the introduction of the Grand Prix Edition Honda Civic to the Australian market.
The Civic came equipped with a lightweight, all-aluminium 1.5-litre, 12-valve SOHC engine and was available only in white and red. It featured colour-matched bumpers, front and rear air dams, minted badges, and side lettering proudly displaying "GRAND PRIX EDITION".
David Prince, a long-time member of the Honda Car Club of Victoria, purchased a Grand Prix Edition Honda Civic in 1984 and later restored a 1986 version.
"Having restored the car, I realised how special it was," said David. "Honda’s focus on quality, innovation, and making great cars to drive has kept them at the forefront of automotive engineering."
