Peugeot kills off non-hybrid range
Peugeot Australia has confirmed it will shift its SUV and passenger vehicle ranges to hybrid powertrains, starting with the mid-sized 3008. The move spells the demise of the 508 (and all other ICE and PHEV models), which will be retired locally.
The 3008 Fastback SUV is powered by a new 1.2-litre turbocharged PureTech petrol engine, developed for optimal integration with hybridisation, and delivering 100kW of power and 230Nm of torque. It’s coupled with a new 6-speed dual-clutch electrified gearbox.
With a battery that recharges while decelerating, this technology helps to provide extra torque at low engine speeds and lowers fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (by up to 32 per cent when compared to the outgoing 3008 ICE vehicle).

The new Peugeot 3008 Hybrid range has a combined cycle fuel consumption of 4.9-litres/100km. To be offered in an Allure and a GT Premium variant, each comes standard with the newest version of i-Cockpit.
This includes a 21-inch HD curved display, compact steering wheel with flush controls and digital i-toggles, with up to 10 widgets. The head-up display and the large central touch screen are now integrated into a curved panoramic panel.
It comes with a revamped front end with the classic three-claw light signature, but introduces a fresh design for the headlamps and grille. The new emblem seamlessly integrates with both, using a gradient body colour for a cohesive look.
The French car maker has modernised the traditional slope of the fastback line at the rear of the car with a “floating” spoiler. This feature enhances the curve of the new 3008’s bodywork while optimising aerodynamics.
The Allure Hybrid is priced at $52,990 plus on-roads, and comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and fabric seats, while the GT Premium Hybrid adds Nappa leather seats for its $64,990 plus on-roads price tag.
It also scores a panoramic sunroof, heated and vented front seats, and heated outboard second row seats. A mid-range GT variant will join the range at a later stage, with timing to be confirmed.
We can tell you it will add a 10-speaker sound system, pixel LED headlights, and a Black Diamond roof. If you’re interested in placing a pre-order, you can visit the Peugeot Australia website, or talk to your local dealership.
The Peugeot 308, 408, 2008 and 5008 Hybrid variants will also join the local range in 2025. In the meantime, stock of the internal combustion versions of the 308 Hatch, 2008 SUV and 5008 SUV, and plug-in hybrid 408 Fastback are available.
